The University of Tokyo exhibits stark gender disparities, with about 90% of full professors and 77% of undergraduates being men. To address this disparity, the executive vice-president initiated the #WeChangeUTokyo program, focusing on awareness and institutional change. This initiative includes unconscious bias training for hiring, educational workshops on gender stereotypes, and support measures for women. The aim is to foster a more equitable environment, recognizing that entrenched societal norms have historically marginalized women's representation.
The poster was part of a larger effort to improve recognition across the campus community and promote change regarding gender inequity at UTokyo.
As the executive vice-president, I have spent the past four years struggling with this inequity and leading the university's diversity efforts.
