Reflecting on Team GB's results at the Paris Olympics, many have noted the number of mothers winning medals. This highlights a significant shift in sporting bodies' recognition of maternal health.
Despite the triumphs of Olympians, we must be cautious in our expectations for the general population. Many women face challenges, like inadequate NHS funding for postnatal physio, making it hard to return to sports.
This medal tally shouldn't overshadow the pressing need to enhance funding for services that support ordinary women in their journey back to sports post-childbirth.
My hope is that the sport science that aids elite athletes will eventually benefit everyone, ensuring that all women have access to the support they need.
