Over the past 25 years, the presence of women in cycling has evolved from a few competitors and support roles to a substantial number of women shaping the sport's future. Increased representation in management, governance, and branding has inspired more women to participate in cycling. Pioneering figures like Bonnie Tu, former CEO of Liv/Giant, have played critical roles in this transformation by creating women-specific products and fostering professional women's teams, contributing to an inclusive cycling culture.
When I started cycling I was so shocked that I couldn't find anything for women - not even a jersey for women - and I ended up wearing men's extra small clothing and riding a men's bike. That was in 2007, and I decided something had to be done.
It wasn't just a case of altering handlebars and saddles but starting right from the drawing board with women in mind.
