D&D's new rules put the blade back in Hexblade
Briefly

Wizards of the Coast is revisiting the Hexblade subclass for Warlocks in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition after receiving significant player backlash against the proposed new version. Originally introduced in Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Hexblades allow Warlocks to utilize Charisma for melee attacks, enhancing their effectiveness in close combat. Rather than being included in the 2024 Player's Handbook, the designers have opted to refine the mechanics, reinforcing the subclass's popularity, especially in the context of Baldur's Gate 3.
The backlash to the proposed new version of the Warlock subclass Hexblade released in May proved so negative that the designers of D&D have taken another crack at it.
Warlocks in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition typically stand in the back of the fight and lob eldritch blasts and hexes at enemies, but the Hexblade subclass changed that.
The subclass quickly became one of the most popular options for Warlocks because of how powerful it is, making melee builds viable.
The original version of the Pact of the Blade feature was thematically cool but not especially effective, making Hexblades more powerful with Charisma-based melee.
