Women's Power Rankings: Texas unseats UConn at No. 1 after big wins
"Being at Mississippi State, we had some knock-down-drag-outs with them,"
"We have tremendous respect for their program. They're well-coached, great players. When we play South Carolina, we're going to get the real deal. If you're not on your game, they won't just beat you. They'll embarrass you."
"Playing them this early has its value. Whether we [won or lost], like Dawn said, we learn from it."
The Players Era Championship in Las Vegas produced a new No. 1 as Texas defeated UCLA and South Carolina on consecutive days to claim the top spot in ESPN's Power Rankings. Texas and Oklahoma moved from the Big 12 to the SEC last season, strengthening the conference. South Carolina and Texas met four times in 2024–25, with South Carolina winning three of those meetings. Texas's 66–64 win in Las Vegas was not an SEC game. South Carolina and Texas will play once in SEC action on Jan. 15 at South Carolina, and both teams will face ranked opponents in the ACC/SEC Challenge.
