Vanja Černivec will become the Portland Fire's general manager beginning Sept. 15, shortly after the regular season ends. Černivec served as vice president of basketball operations for the Valkyries and played a central role constructing their inaugural roster and coaching staff, including influencing the draft selection of 19-year-old Lithuanian guard Justė Jocytė. Her background includes two seasons as general manager of the London Lions and work as an international scout for the Chicago Bulls from 2020 to 2022. The Fire join the league next season amid front-office changes that included the departure of president Inky Son and the hiring of Clare Hamill as president.
