'Like being stabbed in stomach' -Everton's Snoeijs on endometriosis
""The cramps around my womb and my belly were just horrible. Even the back pain, it's just hard standing up straight, let alone sprinting or running.""
""Until I got the diagnosis, it was really challenging because I felt I was constantly doubting myself. You're like: 'Is this real? Is what I feel normal?'""
Katja Snoeijs experienced severe pain during a match, leading to her endometriosis diagnosis. Endometriosis is a chronic condition where womb-like cells grow outside the uterus, causing painful menstrual periods. It affects one in 10 women in the UK, often taking years to diagnose. After consulting a gynaecologist and undergoing tests, Snoeijs was recommended keyhole surgery for a definitive diagnosis. She had previously struggled with pain and self-doubt, questioning the reality of her symptoms. Following surgery, she began to feel relief from her symptoms.
