Euro 2025 Daily: Hosts Switzerland keep knockout hopes alive
Briefly

Switzerland achieved a crucial 2-0 victory over Iceland, keeping their hopes for the knockout stage alive. Géraldine Reuteler scored the opening goal after a great assist from Syndey Shertenlieb, followed by Alayah Pilgrim's long-range goal securing the win. Despite being passive initially, Switzerland managed 15 shots, with Iman Beney being the main attacking force. Iceland, despite out-ranking Switzerland, failed to create meaningful opportunities and are now out of contention. This win puts Switzerland in a favorable position to progress if they defeat Finland in their final group match.
Hosts Switzerland kept their hopes of qualifying for the knockouts alive with a 2-0 win over Iceland on Sunday. Géraldine Reuteler netted the first goal of the evening after Barcelona youngster Syndey Shertenlieb played a perfect ball through for the veteran to finish.
Alayah Pilgrim went from distance to secure all three points in the must-win game for the hosts. The home nation were rather passive in front of goal for most of the evening, but rebounded to have 15 shots.
Switzerland's win leaves them in position to qualify out of the group stage, providing they beat Finland in the final game. Iceland, though, are out of the tournament altogether.
Both sides had moments of brilliance in the first half, but a lack of clinical finishing in the final third left them on an even playing field and both hoping for something to go their way.
