England World Cup winner Dow retires aged 28
""I 100% could go to another World Cup, I could go on a Lions tour, I do appreciate they are big things that could have been on the radar. But I'm also so excited for different chapters of my life, I think I've given as much as I can in this form of the game, and I'm just ready for the next move.""
""I personally believe that we are losing arguably the best right winger in world rugby at the peak of her powers, but we fully respect her decision to move on to a new chapter," said England head coach John Mitchell."
""I quite like finishing on an awkward number with 59 caps. It's just awkward, and I think it's perfect.""
Abby Dow, England wing, retired from rugby at 28 to return to mechanical engineering after completing an Imperial College London degree in 2020. Dow scored 50 tries in 59 caps following her 2017 debut and won seven Six Nations titles, including six Grand Slams. She lifted the World Cup with a 33-13 win over Canada at Twickenham. Dow did not sign with a club after her 2024-25 Trailfinders contract ended. She reflected on emotional moments after a 2022 loss that motivated her to continue and said she felt ready to begin a new chapter.
