Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie says she is terrified her sons will join manosphere'
"I keep reading these pieces about the manosphere, and I've just read a book about how men, how boys, are struggling, and now I'm terrified that my boys not only will struggle through their teen years, but then somehow will join the manosphere and start to talk about how women should be in the kitchen or something, she said. But really, that's not going to happen. I will not respond well to that nonsense, she added to audience laughter."
"The boys are going to grow up in a world that's quite different from the world which I grew up in, and my husband grew up in, she said. I think they're fortunate to have a good father. But sometimes I think: do we have what it takes to make sure that they turn out right? And I'm so keen to have them turn out right."
A mother of three expresses anxiety that her twin boys could join the manosphere and adopt harmful, regressive attitudes toward women. She has recently read about boys and men struggling and worries about their teen years and ideological influences. She vows to resist any misogynistic nonsense and expects to push back strongly if necessary. The children include a ten-year-old daughter and one-and-a-half-year-old twin boys, who will grow up in a different world than their parents did. She feels the boys are fortunate to have a good father but questions whether she and her husband can ensure they "turn out right."
