Wednesday Share Video for New Song "Elderberry Wine"
Briefly

Wednesday, the Asheville indie-rock band, has returned with their first official single since 2023, titled 'Elderberry Wine.' Directed by Spencer Kelly, the song's lyrics are inspired by the elderberry's reputation as a healing fruit, and it metaphorically addresses the delicate balance needed in love and relationships. Bandleader Karly Hartzman noted how experiences with elderberries evoke a sense of care in creating environments for fulfillment. Notably, guitarist MJ Lenderman has announced he will no longer tour with the band, adding a poignant layer to the band's future endeavors.
Elderberry is known as a healing fruit, and is an ingredient in many tonics and syrups to aid the immune system. One time, however, my sister consumed them raw, and it immediately induced vomiting.
So 'Elderberry Wine' is ultimately a love song about creating just the right environment for fulfillment. There's a delicate balance that needs to be created, especially in love, for two lives to intersect without poisoning each other.
The core Wednesday lineup-Karly Hartzman, guitarist and vocalist MJ Lenderman, Xandy Chelmis, drummer Alan Miller, and bassist Ethan Baechtold-made 'Elderberry Wine.'
Lenderman recently revealed, however, that he will no longer tour with the band.
