Kevin O'Gorman, master distiller at Midleton Distillery, discusses the release of Chapter Six from the Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection, which comprises whiskey matured for 50 years. The Old Midleton Distillery, established in 1825, celebrated its 200th anniversary this year. O'Gorman shares the history of the distillery, emphasizing the significance of the special barrels set aside since its closure in 1975. The release coincides with the 50th anniversary of the old distillery and reflects a deep connection to Ireland's whiskey heritage, as well as the challenges of preserving such rare products over time.
"I was aware of these when I joined the company in 1998... I was always told they were special, even if there was nothing special in mind with regards to what to actually do with them."
"I have certainly felt the weight of history a bit," he adds. Indeed, Chapter Six is... the oldest and rarest Irish whiskey ever - or at least a final part of the oldest and rarest Irish whiskey collection, which is a big claim."
