Review: Remus Crafts an Unusually Decadent Bourbon
Briefly

Remus Master Distiller Experimental Series No. 1, crafted at the Ross & Squibb Distillery, marks a new direction for MGP's in-house brand. Launched by Master Distiller Ian Stirsman, the series emphasizes creative experimentation with grains, mash bills, and aging processes. The inaugural release uses lightly-charred, heavily-toasted Seguin Moreau barrels, sourced from a Napa Valley cooper. This venture allows MGP to step outside its typical production methods, aiming for uniqueness in an already acclaimed whiskey portfolio, all while honoring its rich historical roots as the distillery evolves.
This collection is my kind of excuse to start experimenting with what we typically do... We rarely go outside of the box and try something totally different.
There was a big barrel shortage, and we were getting barrels from wherever we could... these were lightly-charred barrels from a Napa Valley cooper that we didn't typically work with.
