Nice Winery, a family-owned vineyard in Houston, Texas, has gained recognition at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's Uncorked! International Wine Competition. After 19 years, Ryan Levy's winery has expanded its offerings to 40 different wines, highlighting organic farming practices. This year, Nice Winery received top honors as the best all-around winery for a second consecutive time, thanks to numerous wines ranking first in their categories. Levy, who benefitted from a rodeo scholarship, emphasizes giving back to the community through donations from winery classes.
When I started making wine, I didn't even know that rodeo had a wine competition. That wasn't even on my radar.
Half of all of the classes we teach here at Nice Winery, half of them are donated back to local 501(c)(3) charities here in Houston to help give back and pay forward the spectacular gift that, 31 years ago, volunteers at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo gave to me.
Our winery is organic and sustainably farmed. That means chickens are used for pest control, and small bites served out of the kitchen come straight from their garden.
Nice Winery was recognized as the top all-around Winery with a special belt buckle and saddle trophy, scoring number one in their category more than any other winery in the world.
