Jimtown Store, a historic establishment in Alexander Valley now named Jimtown and Then Sum, offers a new dim sum menu under proprietor Michelle Wood, who has a background in catering and traditional Cantonese cuisine. The store's grand opening features a barbecue followed by dim sum events, signaling a shift toward a rotating menu that showcases various cuisines. The original Jimtown Store, founded in the late 1800s by James Patrick, serves as a cultural landmark that now embraces modern culinary trends.
The original area of Jimtown, a valley at the edge of the Mayacamas Mountains, was founded by James "Jim" Patrick. In 1856, at the age of 2, his parents traveled from Iowa with him and his brother via oxen-drawn wagon and settled in Santa Rosa.
I come from a very traditional Cantonese household, and dim sum was always a huge part of our traditions. It's hugely important to me - it's my comfort food. But I love all cuisines, so the menu is going to rotate and reflect that.
