Tennis Star Novak Djokovic on His Favorite Hotel in the World, His Major Travel Weakness, and the Weirdest Item He Packs
"Novak Djokovic laughs in the face of jet lag. For more than two decades, the world's most successful male tennis player has traveled the world to compete, collecting 24 Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal along the way. During that time, he's perfected his form when it comes to smashing travel fatigue as well as tennis balls. "There are so many little things you can do to avoid jet lag," the 38-year-old Serbian tells Travel + Leisure."
""A great view and a great mattress are two of the most important aspects of a great hotel room," he says. "I'm also a big fan of less cables and healthier minibars." His favorite international hotel group, he says, is Aman. Back in the summer of 2014, he married his wife Jelena at the sumptuous Aman Sveti Stefan in Montenegro, and that love affair with the brand has only grown, with Djokovic naming Thailand's Amanpuri as his favorite hotel in the world today."
Novak Djokovic has traveled globally for more than two decades, winning 24 Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal. He uses specific routines to combat jet lag: over-hydrating with lemon, mint, and salt on planes; grounding barefoot on natural ground upon hotel arrival; taking hot Epsom-salt baths; and watching sunrise to reset his circadian rhythm. He prefers window seats, salted sorghum popcorn, and hotel rooms with great views and mattresses, minimal cables, and healthier minibars. Djokovic favors Aman hotels, married at Aman Sveti Stefan in 2014, names Amanpuri his favorite, and has launched an Aman wellness retreat with a curated three-day program.
