An AR glasses app currently in development aims to act as a real-world ad blocker, addressing concerns over future ad saturation in augmented reality. Developer Stijn Spanhove showcased an early version using Snap Spectacles that can obscure various advertisements, such as billboards and product logos. Although the app is still in its experimental phase and has imperfections, like being potentially more distracting than ads themselves, it represents a promising direction for controlling content viewed in AR, appealing to users wary of invasive advertising.
Thankfully, one AR software developer has created a tool that goes in the opposite direction by blocking adverts wherever they appear.
For now, however, the blocker isn't perfect. I'd argue the big red blocker is more distracting than an advertisement.
