With Google's device insurance program costing $89 for two years, replacements are only $49 for customers who opted into Preferred Care, significantly raising costs for unprotected users.
If users do not have Preferred Care within 30 days of purchase, their options are scarce, limited to discounted mail-in replacements or risky self-repair attempts.
