Helen Keller International's New York Vision Program aims to provide free eye care to children and families in Brooklyn, targeting those who often forego vision tests due to costs.
Melinda Birks emphasized, 'By delivering the essential building blocks of good health, sound nutrition, and clear vision, we help millions create lasting change in their own lives.'
'As many as 4 million children and 12 million adults in the U.S. suffer from impaired vision due to uncorrected refractive error,' Birks noted, highlighting the urgency for screenings.
Last year, Helen Keller screened nearly 114,000 individuals, of whom 67% received no-cost prescription glasses, demonstrating the substantial impact of the program.
