Android phones are getting lock screen widgets this year
Briefly

Google is set to introduce lock screen widgets to Android 16 phones, a feature previously available only on the Pixel Tablet. While app developers can disable lock screen support, this update allows users to access widgets directly from their lock screen. Certain actions will still require authentication for security. Currently, this feature is not enabled in the latest beta but has been activated early by some users. The implementation differs from the Pixel Tablet, featuring a vertical stack of widgets instead of a two-row grid.
Google has announced that lock screen widgets are coming to Android 16 phones later this year.
While the lock screen widgets for phones aren't yet enabled in the latest Android 16 beta, they have been activated early by Mishaal Rahman.
