Aldi is releasing a work-from-home walking pad in its Special Buys range, priced at $199. The device can be placed under a desk so people can walk while working through meetings and tasks. Walking pads are presented as a way to reduce sedentary time, especially in winter when outdoor walking is less appealing. The trainer notes that many people are more inactive than they realize and that walking pads convert sitting time into activity. Other retailers sell similar products online for $129 to $259, but Aldi’s version will be available in stores starting May 30. Using the pad for a few hours can add 5,000 to 10,000 steps, helping maintain momentum indoors.
"Aldi is set to release a work-from-home (WFH) gadget that can help you easily get your steps in while you punch out meetings and tasks. The low-cost supermarket's Special Buys range next weekend will feature a $199 walking pad that can easily be slotted under your desk. Anytime Fitness personal trainer, Sebastian Randolph, told Yahoo Lifestyle that these devices can be a game-changer, especially in winter when you might not want to brave the cold conditions for a run or walk outside."
""I'm a big fan of them," he said. "Most people are far more sedentary than they realise, so this is one of the easiest ways to fix that without needing to change your whole day. "You're just taking the time you'd already spend sitting and turning it into something active.""
""Having something right there at home allows you to still get your steps in, stay active, and most importantly, keep the momentum going even when it's miserable outside," he said. Depending on the setting and how often you use the walking pad in a day, you could rack up 5,000 to 10,000 steps within a few hours, with Sebastian saying it "quickly adds up"."
"But they're only available through the retailers' online marketplaces, meaning you have to get it delivered to your home, and if you want to return it, you have to send it to the manufacturer.
