Arizona State won't renew contract of coach Bobby Hurley
"Bobby Hurley has made incredible contributions to the sport of basketball, and that certainly includes many memorable moments during his time as our Head Coach. While we will not be extending his contract, we are so grateful for the 11 years that Coach, Leslie, Cameron, Sydney, and Bobby Jr. spent with us at ASU."
"I don't have any regrets. I laid it out all on the line to the best that I could every night. And I did it until the last buzzer sounded."
"The biggest thing is regardless of winning championships and all this other stuff, it's about the relationships and the players I can coach. That means the most to me. But as far as wins and losses, like, my wife is going to be supporting me after this. My daughters love me."
Arizona State announced the non-renewal of men's basketball coach Bobby Hurley's contract following a 91-42 loss to Iowa State in the Big 12 tournament, the largest margin of defeat in tournament history. Hurley compiled a 185-167 record over 11 seasons but finished this year 17-16. Despite the disappointing end, Hurley led the Sun Devils to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, a program first since 1980-81, and had the team ranked third nationally at one point. Athletics director Graham Rossini expressed gratitude for Hurley's contributions and leadership. Hurley reflected positively on his tenure, emphasizing that relationships with players and family moments meant more to him than championships.
