Deion Sanders, coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, is pushing the NCAA to allow college teams to hold joint spring practices and scrimmages against other teams, similar to NFL practices. He believes this would enhance public interest and provide more competitive experiences for players, as opposed to the current format where teams practice against themselves. Trends within major programs indicate a shift away from traditional spring games, with some replacing them with skills competitions. Sanders expressed concern over the diminishing nature of these events and the need for competitive evaluation.
"I would actually like to play the spring game against another team, in the spring. That's what I'm trying to do right now," Sanders said.
"The way the trend is going, is you never know if this is going to be the last spring game," said Sanders, emphasizing the uncertain future of spring games.
