Who is the new General Manager of the Nationals, Anirudh Kilambi?
"The Nationals have just hired themselves a new General Manager, so why not get to know the guy? The team hired Ani Kilambi, another young hire (31 Years Old) to this Front Office. He is another piece, alongside Hunter Butera, that has great history with the Tampa Bay Rays organization. The Nationals have shown a concerted effort to go young and innovative, and I think that most people would agree that we love it."
"You can't say bad about a man that made the playoffs a lot and often. The Tampa Bay Rays made the playoffs in every season that Kilambi was with the team. The Rays, in fact, made the World Series in 2020. The Phillies ended Kilambi's playoff streak in 2023, but we do know Philadelphia as being among the better MLB teams for years, so it fits the script of success."
Ani Kilambi graduated from UC-Berkeley in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in statistics, operations research, and management science. He interned with the Tampa Bay Rays ahead of his senior year and joined the Rays after graduation. He progressed from assistant of baseball research and development to analyst of predictive modeling, assistant director of baseball research and development, and director of decision science, holding those roles from 2016 to 2021. Kilambi became the Philadelphia Phillies' assistant general manager in 2021. The Rays reached the playoffs in every season during his tenure, including the 2020 World Series; Philadelphia ended that streak in 2023. The Washington Nationals hired Kilambi as general manager as part of a youth- and analytics-focused front-office rebuild alongside hires such as Hunter Butera.
