Where the Nats stand - May
Briefly

The Nationals currently stand at 14-18, positioned 7 games behind the NL East lead and 3.5 games out of the Wild Card spot. The NL East landscape is as expected, with the Nats surpassing the Marlins but still trailing behind the Braves, Mets, and Phillies. Their performance mirrors last season's, indicating minimal off-season improvements. Players like Josh Bell are underperforming, posing concerns, especially since he was expected to take on the DH role this year. Overall, while there's room for young players to improve, the current trajectory suggests a challenging season ahead for the Nationals.
Individually A month isn't enough to get a good feel of players seasons but it is enough time for extreme outliers to be looked at to wonder if we hadn't gotten anything wrong in the evaluation of them.
For a team that did little to improve in the off-season, unsurprisingly they are playing out to be a lot like last year in terms of competitiveness - meaning not very.
