In their first game of a split-squad doubleheader, the Washington Nationals faced the Miami Marlins, ending in a tie. Key players Robert Hassell III and Nasim Núñez both delivered strong performances with two hits each, against formidable pitcher Sandy Alcantara. That said, the game also saw sloppy play, including wild pitches and fielding errors. Manager Dave Martinez highlighted Luis Garcia Jr.'s improvement against left-handed pitchers. The Nationals are now at 8-7-1 in Grapefruit League play with an upcoming schedule featuring more competitive matchups.
[ Luis Garcia Jr. ] had a good day. I'm liking his at-bats more and more against lefties, too. He's staying in there a little better. That's awesome.
He spread his legs out a little bit today, because he wanted to feel his hands work a little better, and it was really good. He's really just trying to hit the ball hard in the middle of the field and working good at-bats.
