Nationals Release Lucas Sims
Briefly

The Washington Nationals have placed veteran reliever Lucas Sims on release waivers following a poor performance against the Cardinals. In a single inning, he recorded two outs but hit a batter, walked four, and allowed three runs, contributing to his overall struggles this season. Acquired for $3MM during Spring Training, Sims made 18 appearances for the Nats, allowing 19 runs in just over 12 innings. This follows a challenging tenure with the Red Sox last season, where his production sharply declined after being traded from the Reds.
Sims was on the mound for the Nats roughly an hour ago. He had a nightmare outing in a blowout loss to the Cardinals.
He hit a batter (his MLB-leading seventh of the season), walked four more, and gave up a hit in a three-run inning.
Sims' production tanked immediately with the Sox. He allowed 10 runs on as many walks while picking up nine strikeouts in 14 innings.
His Washington tenure concludes with 19 runs allowed across 12 1/3 innings.
