Shinnosuke Ogasawara has been recalled by the Nationals for his MLB debut after Ryan Loutos was optioned to Triple-A. Ogasawara, who signed a two-year, $3.5MM deal, experienced an oblique injury that sidelined him for two months. Previously with Nippon Professional Baseball's Chunichi Dragons, he posted solid ERAs over recent years but showed concerns with a low strikeout rate. The Nationals anticipate his contribution to fill in for injured Trevor Williams during his debut against the Red Sox.
Ogasawara, 27, signed a two-year deal worth $3.5MM during the offseason. He did not make the club's starting rotation out of Spring Training and was optioned to the minor leagues.
Prior to joining the Nationals, Ogasawara had spent nine seasons pitching for Nippon Professional Baseball's Chunichi Dragons, posting a 3.36 ERA in his rookie season.
