Mitchell Parker, a rising star for the Nationals, recognizes the urgent need to improve his defensive skills after a successful 2024 season. Despite achieving record strikeouts as a rookie, Parker finished tied for the most errors at his position, which hindered his performance and led to frustrating moments during games. He acknowledges that defense is crucial for his longevity in the league and is determined to refine his skills through focused offseason training to avoid repeating past mistakes.
I mean, it's horrible. It's something that we do 1,000 times here. ... So being able to mess it up that much was frustrating.
Obviously, need to be able to field my position. I'm not going to be able to last in the games if you can't do that.
Parker finished with the most strikeouts (133) by a rookie in team history.
We're working on it now and worked on it a bit this offseason. Just taking it one step at a time trying to improve however we can.
