Ellen, a dentist from Zimbabwe, and Ameet, an IT engineer from Virginia, celebrated their wedding with a fusion of their cultures, incorporating traditional elements from Eritrean and Punjabi heritage. Their commitment included a week-long series of events, with a focus on family and community values. Notable moments were their vow exchange and sand ceremony, which resonated deeply for both. The wedding was a reminder of their shared histories, ultimately leading to a honeymoon in Bali.
Sikhs and Eritreans are warriors with common values of justice, community, and commitment to freedom and sovereignty. Ellen and I come from cultures surrounded by history and significance.
Our celebration included more than a week of activities and events from each of our Eritrean and Punjabi cultures, including traditional attire and a gourmet fusion menu.
