House Dem Credits Shooting Victim Steve Scalise With Helping Him To Safety During WHCD
"I want to thank law enforcement, Capital police. I personally want to thank Steve Scalise who grabbed me into a secure room. Regular members don't have anything. We don't have any detail. We don't have any protection."
"Me and Steve going out, again, two people who have both had to deal with this. Steve doesn't walk well. You know, he couldn't run, as people were running, he couldn't run. It's a terrible reality."
Rep. Jared Moskowitz expressed gratitude to House Majority Leader Steve Scalise for assisting him during a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' dinner. Moskowitz described hiding under a table when he saw security rushing toward Scalise. He asked to join Scalise, who facilitated his entry into a secure room. Moskowitz noted that regular members lack protection, unlike leadership. Both he and Scalise have faced threats, with Moskowitz being a survivor of gun violence advocacy following the Parkland shooting. Scalise was previously shot in 2017 during a congressional practice.
