Federal employees have been recalled to offices under a mandate from President Trump, signaling the end of the pandemic-era remote work policy. Elon Musk, overseeing efficiency at government agencies, warned on social media that employees failing to return would face administrative leave. Zeldin, head of the EPA, echoed these sentiments and highlighted the stark contrast between the physical capacity of EPA offices and the low attendance observed. However, several agencies, including the Department of Education, expressed readiness issues, indicating some remote workers would continue their work-from-home arrangements due to logistical challenges.
"Starting this week, those who still fail to return to office will be placed on administrative leave," Musk wrote.
"Full-time, COVID-era remote work is DONE under @POTUS leadership," Zeldin stated.
"Our spacious, beautiful EPA headquarters spans two city blocks in D.C. across five buildings," Zeldin added.
"We should treat it like the first day of school - plan a little time in your calendar to get oriented, find your way around..."
