Mario Bustamante-Leiva, a 49-year-old illegal migrant, stole DHS Secretary Kristi Noem's Gucci purse during an Easter dinner in Washington, DC. After the theft, he used her Amex card at a local restaurant, spending over $205 on food and drinks. The purse contained $3,000 in cash and crucial identification documents. Bustamante-Leiva was recorded making the theft and proceeded to spend hours at the restaurant before ultimately falling asleep at a table outside. Authorities indicated he had used funds from other robberies as well.
Bustamante-Leiva was caught on camera blowing $205.87 on food and alcohol just minutes after he slyly made off with her shoulder bag.
Images released show him snatching Noem's bag - which contained $3,000 cash and DHS Secretary Noem's ID and passport - while she dined with family.
