Tom Wilson needed more than 20 stitches to close cut on lip after taking another puck to face
Briefly

Tom Wilson of the Washington Capitals sustained a significant facial injury during a game against the Anaheim Ducks, resulting in over 20 stitches to his upper lip. Despite this injury, he confirmed he would be available for the next match against the Los Angeles Kings. Coach Spencer Carbery commented on the severity of the injury, stating repairs were necessary. Wilson has faced facial injuries consistently over the past two seasons but, unlike previous injuries where he broke bones, he won't need a protective face shield this time. Wilson is enjoying a career-best season with 54 points in 64 games.
"He's got a huge gash on his upper lip," head coach Spencer Carbery said postgame. "He'll need repairs."
Wilson revealed he needed more than 20 stitches to close the gash, but will be available to play later in the night against the Los Angeles Kings.
Wilson did not break any bones this time, so he will not have to wear a full face shield for a second time this year.
The Capitals' alternate captain is having a career-best season, recording 54 points (29g, 25a) through 64 games.
