The Washington Capitals could start the new year down a defenseman, labeling Martin Fehervary day-to-day with an upper-body injury after he fell to friendly fire against the Boston Bruins Tuesday afternoon.
Fehervary's injury came just over five minutes into the third period against Boston when Tom Wilson accidentally struck him in the face with a high stick, leading to his quick departure from the game.
Before Tuesday, Fehervary averaged the third-most minutes of any Capitals skater, playing 19:33 per game behind John Carlson and Jakob Chychrun, highlighting his importance on the team.
The Capitals will play three games in the next five days, which puts pressure on the team’s depth as they look to navigate Fehervary's uncertain status.
