Connor McMichael enjoyed a standout 2024-25 NHL season, achieving personal bests with 26 goals and 31 assists. Although he has excelled as a wing player, McMichael prefers playing center, a role he only occupied briefly last season. He expressed a desire to step into the center position, particularly with the Capitals needing a pivot after Lars Eller's departure. McMichael credited coach Spencer Carbery for significantly aiding his development and providing him more responsibility than previous coaches, reinforcing his comfort on the ice, regardless of position.
I think I want to be a center for sure, that's where I'm most comfortable. But I think I'm really comfortable at the wing as well.
Getting to play with Dubie and Tom Wilson was a huge benefit for me, and I thought that they really helped my game out a lot.
