Capitals vs. Blackhawks Recap: Caps Roll in Chi-town with 5-1 Win
"With a bevy of dads, brothers, and other mentors along for the ride, the Caps hit the muggy ice in Chicago ready to play from the opening faceoff and took it to an undermanned Blackhawks team. It wasn't always the cleanest game but it was a solid win from start to finish, with offense coming from up and down the lineup - can't ask for much more than that."
"Plus: The Caps scored early to take a 1-0 lead, which we always love, but it was thanks to a crucial five-on-three penalty kill that the Caps were able to then take control of the game. With Justin Sourdif and Martin Fehervary in the box at about the halfway mark of the first, the Caps - and particularly Logan Thompson - did a great job of shutting down a 'Hawks power play that had scored six times in their last four games."
"Minus: Would've liked to see LT get the shutout...alas, that power play that had been held off the board earlier in the game struck in the second (courtesy of a wicked shot by rookie Oliver Moore). Caps Player of the Game: This is what you'd call a good old-fashioned team game, but we'll give it to Connor McMichael, who had a goal and an assist as one of four Caps with a multi-point night."
The Capitals started aggressively from the opening faceoff and overwhelmed an undermanned Blackhawks team. The performance was not always clean but remained a solid team win with scoring contributions throughout the lineup. An early goal gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead and a crucial five-on-three penalty kill, with Justin Sourdif and Martin Fehervary in the box allowing the team to seize control. Logan Thompson excelled on the kill and shut down a previously potent Blackhawks power play. The Hawks scored in the second on a wicked shot by rookie Oliver Moore, denying Thompson a shutout. Connor McMichael recorded a goal and an assist and was one of four Capitals with multiple points.
