The Capitals' 3-1 win against the Leafs marked their first victory in Toronto since 2019 and extended their road winning streak to a franchise-record eight games.
Connor McMichael scored the go-ahead goal, benefiting from Pierre-Luc Dubois' excellent forechecking that forced a costly turnover from Auston Matthews.
Despite the game not being their best, the Capitals' performance outshone their previous lackluster game against the Sharks and was what they needed.
A stroke of luck contributed to McMichael's goal, as Matthews' turnover bounced off the ref, but the mistake was still costly for the Leafs.
