He's our leader, He's our best guy in the locker room. He showed it. He's our best guy. He has more experience than anybody in this locker room. He knows how to play like that. He just shows his leadership."
""He's our leader," Ovechkin said after the game. "He's our best guy in the locker room. He showed it. He's our best guy. He has more experience than anybody in this locker room. He knows how to play like that. He just shows his leadership.""
The late-2000s Washington Capitals featured a core of young stars led by Alex Ovechkin. Primary scorers included Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Alexander Semin, and Mike Green. Veterans Sergei Fedorov and Viktor Kozlov joined the roster to provide experience and mentorship to younger Russian players. Kozlov signed a two-year deal via free agency in the 2007 offseason. Fedorov was acquired at the 2008 trade deadline and returned on a one-year, $4 million contract. Fedorov scored Washington’s game-winning goal in Game 7 of the 2009 first round, helping secure the franchise’s first playoff series victory of the Ovechkin era.
