Alex Ovechkin does Hershey's ROAR celebration in locker room after Clay Stevenson earns first career NHL win
""Ay, you guys have been really good to me here in this room," Stevenson said. "You picked me up after that tough third one. And, you know, we shut it down, and we got the job done. A lot of good stuff, a lot of blocked shots. Let's go, baby!""
""I just packed my stuff," Ovechkin said. "I'm going to Hershey. They have playoffs, so I'll see you there.""
Clay Stevenson was thrust into net after starters Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren suffered injuries and recorded his first NHL victory with 19 saves in a 4-3 overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Garin Bjorklund, his normal Hershey backup, served as the Capitals' backup in Washington. Spencer Carbery presented Stevenson with his first-win puck in the locker room, and teammates urged Stevenson to speak. Stevenson thanked teammates, credited blocked shots and defensive effort, and performed the Bears' ROAR celebration. Alex Ovechkin returned the ROAR while wearing the Screaming Eagle third jersey and joked about joining Hershey's playoff run, inspiring a custom fan jersey. Ovechkin previously suited up once in Hershey during a Capitals preseason game, and a later training-camp lower-body injury canceled a planned preseason appearance at Giant Center.
