In Jiading District, Shanghai, an old factory site has been revitalized into a cultural center, integrating artistry with local heritage. Commissioned initially for artist Yue Minjun's studio, the location remained vacant until the Dazzle fashion brand took it over, creating Qujing Miyuan, which is inspired by the artist's works and Jiangnan gardens. The design features a spiraling path that enhances spatial experiences and encourages exploration through its dynamic topography and layered environments, reflecting traditional Chinese residential structures.
The architectural concept stems from early conversations with artist Yue Minjun, drawing inspiration from his Maze series and cultural connections to Jiangnan gardens.
Within a square site of 50 meters per side, the spiral path unfolds, creating new spatial overlaps that invite exploration and embody a profound experience.
