"According to two new reports, the folk at MachineGames are working on Wolfenstein 3, confirming what the studio itself seemed to be hinting at. Today's reports kicked off with Jez Corden at Windows Central who, in an article about Xbox's upcoming year, stated: '...I've heard that Wolfenstein III is also on the cards to coincide with the upcoming Wolfenstein Amazon TV show.' The TV show is only rumoured at this point, not confirmed, so we have no idea when it's supposed to air."
"Wolfenstein has been inactive since 2019's highly disappointing Wolfenstein: Youngblood which was developed with aid from Arkane Lyon. It was, frankly, bloody terrible and a vast step down in terms of quality from the prior two games, both of which were excellent. MachineGames themselves have been pretty clear about their desire to return to the series, saying in a documentary that 'we're not done with Wolfenstein yet. We have a story to tell.'"
MachineGames is developing Wolfenstein III and may time the release to coincide with a rumored Wolfenstein Amazon TV show. Multiple industry sources have indicated the project and corroborating confirmations have emerged. The franchise has been inactive since 2019's Wolfenstein: Youngblood, a title broadly viewed as a disappointing decline compared with the two prior, highly regarded games. MachineGames has expressed a continuing desire to return to the series, stated that the series was envisioned as a trilogy, and noted that the studio is large enough to work on multiple projects, including potential follow-up work related to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
