David Gaider, the original creator of the Dragon Age series, revealed that while at BioWare, cultural tensions existed between the Dragon Age and Mass Effect teams. This divide persisted despite attempts by the company to alleviate the friction by reshuffling developers. Gaider specifically encountered difficulties working on Anthem, where his vision for a more science fantasy story was met with resistance by a team that was reportedly anti-RPG. This internal discord not only complicated teamwork but ultimately affected the projects' overall progress.
For a long time it was basically two teams under one roof: the Dragon Age team and the Mass Effect team. Run differently, very different cultures, may as well have been two separate studios.
The company was aware of the friction and attempts to fix it had been ongoing for years, mainly by shuffling staff between the teams more often.
I won't go into detail about the problems except to say it became clear this was a team that didn't want to make an RPG, [They] were very anti-RPG, in fact.
Yet I don't think anyone told the team this. So they thought this change was my doing.
