Ubisoft Layoffs Strike Again, Reported At Abu Dhabi Studio
"Ubisoft has issued another round of layoffs as it continues the process of establishing its new subsidiary, Vantage, which will own and operate most of Ubisoft's valuable gaming IP, including Assassin's Creed and Far Cry. Gamedeveloper.com is reporting that more jobs have been cut, this time at Ubisoft's Abu Dhabi location. According to the site's reporting, they've noted employees on LinkedIn have been posting since December about being laid off, with some posting in just the last few days about losing their job."
"Just last week, layoffs were announced at Massive Entertainment and Stockholm, totalling 55 jobs, and a week before that, Ubisoft's Halifax studio was shut down entirely - it had unionised a few weeks prior. "Earlier today, we informed all employees in our Swedish studios (Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm) about a proposed organizational restructure that may affect approximately 55 roles across Malmö and Stockholm," Ubisoft told IGN in a statement, noting that the proposed layoffs followed the completion of their Voluntary Leave Program."
"Massive Entertainment is currently working on The Division 3, raising questions about whether the layoffs will impact the game's development. The team also continues to support The Division 2 with content, and the original The Division appears to be getting a Definitive Edition sometime soon. Based on my quick maths and research, I count roughly 186 jobs have been cut since the announcement of Vantage in March of 2025, and presumably, there's a lot more to come as Ubisoft continues trying to save its sinking ship."
Ubisoft has implemented additional layoffs during the formation of Vantage, a new subsidiary that will own and operate major franchises including Assassin's Creed and Far Cry. Multiple studios have been affected, with recent cuts at the Abu Dhabi location, proposed reductions across Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm totaling about 55 roles, and the closure of the Halifax studio. Employees have publicly posted about job losses, including a confirmed departure after 4.5 years. Massive Entertainment continues work on The Division 3 and supports The Division 2, while roughly 186 jobs have been cut since Vantage's announcement in March 2025.
