EA Motive, known for its narrative-driven games, is preparing its next installment in the Battlefield series by seeking inspiration from unconventional sources like the TV show Lioness and the film Civil War. Unlike traditional military films that glorify combat, these influences explore the complexities of relationships among talented yet ordinary individuals in wartime settings. The studio aims to apply their previous success in creating engaging single-player experiences, such as in Dead Space, to deliver a compelling narrative in Battlefield's upcoming release.
"I'm a big fan of Lioness," creative director Roman Campos-Oriola said. The show, based on a real-life CIA program, offers a cerebral take on conflict.
Philippe Ducharme mentioned, "I really enjoyed Civil War," highlighting its depiction of ordinary people in extraordinary situations as a strong reference for the game's narrative.
"The elements we're really interested in is the concept of talented but ordinary people put in extraordinary situations," Campos-Oriola explained, emphasizing character dynamics for single-player.
Motive hopes to leverage its skills from previous games like Dead Space to bring depth to Battlefield, focusing on complex relationships within the game's narrative.
