The First Berserker: Khazan Review - A Souls-Like That Packs A Punch
Briefly

The First Berserker is a new souls-like game with a checkpoint system reminiscent of classics, alongside a parry-heavy combat style inspired by Sekiro. However, it also borrows from Nioh with its level-based structure and gear system. Developer Neople incorporates its unique ideas, focusing on a multifaceted progression and distinct cel-shaded visuals. Players take on the role of Khazan, a general wrongfully accused of treachery who seeks revenge with newfound powers. Though the game showcases a familiar combat experience, its story and characters do not add significant depth to the gaming experience.
Khazan has all the familiar hallmarks of a souls-like--from a bonfire-esque checkpoint system that respawns enemies to XP you can lose upon death.
While its parry-heavy combat is immediately reminiscent of From Software's Sekiro, its level-based structure is inspired by Team Ninja's Nioh.
The First Berserker manages to feel familiar while also carving out an identity of its own, delivering a challenging yet rewarding experience.
The story, while set in the Dungeon & Fighter universe, is relatively light on narrative depth and offers little reason to care.
