Microsoft did something unexpected with Starfield on Xbox Series S, allowing the 30 FPS locked game to run at 60 or even 120 FPS with the help of fan-created mods - albeit with sacrifices in visual quality.
Seven different Creation Club console mods, including a mod that removes grass and uncaps FPS, were used to achieve higher framerates like 60 FPS on Xbox Series S, resulting in a noticeably blurry version of the game.
While 120 FPS gameplay is possible with mods, Starfield struggles to maintain a consistent framerate at this level, especially during space exploration, highlighting the limitations of pushing the Xbox Series S hardware.
Although the fan-developed mods offer a suboptimal experience in terms of visuals, the ability to increase the framerate on Xbox Series S demonstrates the desire for more customization options in Starfield, prompting speculation about potential official updates from Bethesda.
