In a message posted to Steam, game director Dmitriy Grigorenko emphasized that while Saber Interactive appreciates mods and the creativity of the community, it needs to prioritize stability for all players. This decision comes in response to server stability issues and corruption of save files for non-mod users after playing with mod users. The upcoming update in December aims to ensure a smoother experience in online public matches by prohibiting mods, although they will still be accessible in private lobbies.
Grigorenko stated, 'We love mods and the creativity of our players, and they will undoubtedly contribute to the game's longevity. However, recent stability issues that have arisen from their use in public matches require us to implement this restriction to maintain a stable gaming environment for everyone.' This reflects the balance developers must achieve between community creativity and overall game integrity.
Saber Interactive is committed to enhancing the modding scene further by providing easier access to the game's backend and releasing internal tools for modders. This move aims to allow modders to create and innovate even as the studio restricts mod use in public match settings. The intention is to foster a strong community of modders without compromising the game’s performance for the general player base.
Space Marine 2 has seen tremendous success, selling over 4 million copies since its release. Despite recent criticism regarding balance changes, Saber has listened to community feedback and rolled back many of those changes in response. The developers remain attentive to player feedback, indicating a commitment to maintaining a positive relationship with the community.
