At PAX East 2025, Digital Extremes revealed significant updates for both Warframe and its upcoming RPG, Soulframe. Warframe will introduce a new narrative chapter, the 61st Warframe Oraxia, and a Primed version of Yareli. Soulframe, now entering its 10th playtest, emphasizes weapon customization and offers insights into the gameplay through its trailer. Creative director Geoff Crookes and CEO Steve Sinclair discussed the gameâs development, indicating a focus on creative gameplay rather than simple mechanics. They are refining fundamental aspects of Soulframe, aiming to provide a unique gameplay experience distinct from Warframe.
We're still early in the game. We're changing a lot of things in the game, and I think we spent a lot more time than we expected to on fundamentals, where the game is one-third the speed of Warframe and it's a ton of melee focus, and that really took us a lot longer.
The latest Soulframe gameplay reveal includes an upgrade system that Sinclair claims is not at all like Pokemon.
Creatures and sidearms further expand the loadout possibilities, so it isn't just a plug-and-play kind of game. It seems to require some critical thinking.
It's really about weapon customization.
