I avoid a backlog and choose games more selectively now, finishing titles I care about. I have never completed certain Pokémon remakes despite multiple attempts, including their enhanced re-releases. I finished every mainline Pokémon game at least once except the Alola entries. I played Generations I–III obsessively as a child, then became a one-and-done player from Generation IV onward because I could buy more games and felt the stories losing appeal. Pokémon games offered strong worldbuilding but weaker narratives, so I often played from obligation. An affection for Raichu, especially Alolan Raichu, became the unexpected motivation to finally complete a game.
